About ยท The site & the walker

One person,
on foot, on a budget

Tuk Or Walk is one person walking real routes on real budgets, writing them up honestly. No sponsors, no gifted stays, no fluff โ€” just what it costs and what it feels like.

Most travel sites are one of two things: glossy sponsored content, or dry listicles with no soul. Tuk Or Walk is neither. It's one person on foot, telling you what actually happened.

I walk. Not "I fly into a city and take a taxi to a landmark" โ€” I actually walk the routes, from the first BTS stop to the last bowl of noodles, and I write down what it cost, how long it took, and what I'd skip next time.

The photos on this site are mine. The prices are what I actually paid. The opinions are honest โ€” if a temple was smaller than the photos suggest, I say so. If a hotel was worth the money, I say so. If a place closed, the page gets updated.

How this site started

Before Tuk Or Walk, I was already documenting trips on Google Maps โ€” the same trips, the same eye, but in the smaller format the app gives you. Over the years that added up to 7.3 million photo views on my Local Guide profile, and messages from people asking for more detail: the room, the food, the walking time, the parts nobody writes about.

So I built this site as the long-form version. Same honesty, more detail. The badge above links straight to the Maps profile โ€” you can see it's real before you trust a word here.

What "Tuk Or Walk" actually means

It's the question every traveler in Southeast Asia faces at some point: take the tuk-tuk, or walk it? The tuk is fast, the walk is free, and most of the time the walk is where the real trip happens โ€” the small shrine on a side street, the food stall, the temple that isn't in any guidebook.

This site is named after that choice. Almost every answer on it is: walk it. The route will be better.

The promise

If a place was bad, I say so. If a tour was overpriced, I say so. If a price went up, the page gets updated. Affiliate income โ€” where it exists โ€” never changes what's written.

What you'll find here

  • Trips โ€” full routes, stop by stop, with walking times between them.
  • Stop pages โ€” the deep version of each place: cost, toilets, water, food nearby, best light, what to skip.
  • Galleries โ€” photos from every walk, unfiltered, no staging.
  • Countries โ€” the whole map so far, with new walks added as they happen.

What this site is not

  • Not a sponsored blog. Nobody pays to be on these pages.
  • Not a "10 best temples in Bangkok" listicle. Routes are specific, tested, and named.
  • Not a tour operator. I don't sell anything except honesty.
  • Not polished. The walk is messy, the notes are real, the photos are what the light gave me.

Where to start

If you're new here, start with the trips archive. The most complete walk so far is the Sathon temples walk in Bangkok โ€” six stops, one day, everything documented. If you just want to look at photos, the gallery is the fastest way in.

For anything else โ€” a correction, a question, a walk you'd like written up โ€” email me. I reply to everything.

Support

Tuk Or Walk has no ads, no sponsored content, and no paid placements. The only way it survives is readers who find it useful and want to keep it going. If that's you, the Help my travel button on this page (bottom-right on desktop) is the way โ€” small amounts, direct, no subscription.

Either way, thanks for reading. Go walk somewhere.
